Monday is our final day for working on our Michigan brand advertisements. My group, Matt, Ryan and I developed much research and then branched off. Each of us are now coming up with our own campaigns using the research that we gathered together. Our task is to produce a three ad campaign for Carhartt clothing. We discoverd that Carhartt has a European street ware design that is not available in the united states. Though the company is from and still based in Dearborne Michigan, they do not offer this line of clothing here.

So I made and AD for H&M...didn't come out so well for class. The meaning behind this AD is that H&M supports the Mentor NON-PROFIT Organization.Mentor spreads awareness to children about early drug usage. They do so by showing children how important it is to be educated. So the children spend time with successful, educated individuals that can be a good role model for the child. Spending time and joining in activities with children is the best anti-drug. So in this AD, I am expressing that every time you buy H&M you are helping a child to succeed.

Well on November 6th I became the proud owner of a Mac and got new MacBook PRO! Im proud to say that I have a computer that can actually function now. My Tablet PC was getting too old and slow for me to do the work that I needed it for. I am addicted to taking stupid pictures so I'll be posting pictures from my photo-booth folder soon. Anyways I cant wait for the weekend to get here! I have a lot of work to catch up on but of course I cant go a weekend without a little fun. The idea behind the billboard is the fact that many people my age listen to classical music. Though many of us classify ourselves a listening to Rock, Rap, Indie, Hip Hop and a variety of other music generas, through research I have found that many young people do enjoy listening to classical music but do not classify themselves as classical music listeners. Most surverys that said they didn't listen to classical music stated that it was because they didn't know where to find good classical music. So this billboard represents new and old and how my generation can relate to classical music. Not that they don't already listen to it but now they know what radio station to listen to for good classical music.

I'm currently enrolled in Art Direction II and Marketing as well as type III, Studio Lighting and Business Practices. I only had three and a half hours of sleep last night. The other day I picked up the July Issue of Creative Review and inside found an interesting article. The article states that many people that consider themselves "professional designers" are in fact not. Today everyone has access to the same programs that designers use but that dose not make them designers. The overwhelming amount of individuals that call themselves designers make "real" designers look bad. To design, one has to know the fundamentals before they are to use computer programs. Also many corporations are taking more control over their ads and not allowing the art director to make a successful ad. Well that was it. Have a great weekend!

Back to Normal...

Well my summer vacation finally came to an end. Classes started this past week and I am broke already. Just to recap, this summer I traveled to: Stillwater Oklahoma, Tulsa Oklahoma, San Diego California, San Francisco California and to the Florida Keys. Our First day in San Francisco was interesting. Heather and I rolled our luggage around in a cart at target for a bit. After we bought some supplies we left and headed downtown, where we carried out luggage around for most the day. As of then we were offically homeless. After a while of walking, we sat in a coffee shop for a few hours to find a place to stay at. We found a place called the Belle Air in the tenderloin area of San Francisco. All I have to say is scary. Secret hatches in the bathroom, fire escape with no lock on the window. It was definitely an experience. We ended up staying with a couch surfer the rest of our trip, once we had all of there information and address. When Heather and I came back to Oklahoma from our California Adventure we stayed in Stillwater for a week. At the end of the week I went with Max and His family to the Florida Keys. It was amazing, we stayed at a ocean view resort. While there we went snorkeling (during shark week and I saw sharks) and went kayaking. I had so much fun!

but now....
Its back to school time and I feel like summer flew by too quickly. I had such a great time that I think I want to take another adventure...possibly next summer.

Well we are now in San Diego California. We arrived here about nights ago. Heather and I love the life that San Diego has to offer. Our plan is to find potential future carers along with places to live. We have checked out a few apartments and one of them would be perfect for two people to live in. A few nights ago we went to our first baseball game of the season, at Petco Stadium to see the San Diego Padres. They had dollar hot dogs and beverages. It was a event to remember. We also found a flask on the ground, so we kept it as a souvenir. Yesterday we went to the San Diego Zoo, it was so much fun. Of course we took a lot of pictures. Today we are going to the beach to work on your tans. Everything seems to be going great and we will be leaving on the 17th to travel to San Francisco. So drop me a line everyone!

Simple Update

Vacation is going well. Heather and I will be leaving for California on Friday. Both of us have created resumes and business cards, along with a few other samples that will help promote us. Our main mission is to get our faces out there, so once graduation comes we will have contacts for career opportunities. This past week has been great! I found that boxed wine is good enough for me. Last night Maxs cat fell in the toilet, we laughed but felt bad for him. Then to strengthen our belief that Charley (the cat) is mentally handicapped, he almost fell in again today. Wish me luck in California!

So now our water is out again today. Still no toilet and now no water. I’m beginning to want to kill! I went roller skating with Maxz today completely dehydrated and thought I would be fine. It felt good to skate at first because I haven’t been able to in such a long time but by the end I was ready to die. As we were about to get back to the car Max braked on the sidewalk as we were going down a hill and I don’t really know how to break so I thought that jumping onto the grass was a good idea…apparently not. I ended up sliding for a bit before I fell on my back and skidded my arm, and that’s how my day is going so far. After skating I went back to our house to eat and that’s when I found out that the water was out. Just after I covered my hands in liquid soap and had nowhere to rinse off. Oh and last night Joanne’s cat pissed on me while I was asleep. I did get a job here in Stillwater though, I’m an official Goodies employee. That’s it for now I need to go find a shower!!! Later.

So last night I went to the MARBLE LOUNGE (AKA) the DIA. They had a Mexican wrestling match and when they were finished we were able to dance in the Boxing rink. There was a DJ spinning and plenty of drinks, it was a lot of fun. Tonight Detroit by Design is is having a large pre-party for techno-fest. There will be music, drinks, tons of artwork and models. My friend Iryna is taking photos during the event, so that they can be published in the Metrotimes. Even more exciting -- DEMO 2marro. In other words Tecno-Fest is 2marro. So this week has just been one large party for me...I wonder what next week will bring?

Graduation

Today is a bit of a sad day. Today is graduation day at the College for Creative Studies for the students of 2008. Unfortunately I am no longer a student of 2008 but of 2010. All the friendships that I have made while in Illustration are the students that will be leaving. Though sad, I guess it is a part of life and I have made new friends as well as keeping the old. Everyone will be missed and my life at CCS will definitely be different, without those whom have been there so long with me. Congrats to all and don't forget about me while your out in the real world making that money...and don't forget to call me every weekend for bar nights!

Well I had my end of the school year review last Monday and I’m happy to say they went great. I know for sure that my saw blade pancakes made it into the show and I think that two of my short movies made it as well. I had my review with Mark, the head of the department and he had a lot of good things to say about my work. It made me feel good to have someone actually appreciate what I was doing. Anyways yesterday I went to the school to help set up for the show. I was there from 10am until 6pm. I probably will go back in this morning to help finishing up. I had a lot of fun helping yesterday and feel like I got to know the faculty members in ad a bit more. Alriht thats it for now!

The school year is finally over. I don’t even know what to do with myself now. I went from constantly having a task to complete, to being in a sleeping coma for 2 days. We had our end of the school year reviews and they went great for me. For those of you whom may not know, reviews are for instructors to look at your work form school year and tell you how to improve. I definitely know where my weak spots are and want to improve over the summer. Anyways have a great break everyone, we deserve it! Below is some of my work from the semester, let me know what you think!

Surrealistic Pancakes
The concept is to create a visual that is surreal, yet gets the idea of pancakes across to the viewer. This assignment is not so much about making an ad but making a powerful image.

Metaphor for Online Dating
Finding that special someone can be difficult, especially if you have a circumstance that makes it harder. That’s why prescription for love exists. At Prescription For Love one can find a partner with similar health conditions. Whether an individual has a Sexually Transmitted Disease or a heart problem, they can find people like themselves online. Since this is an online dating service for people with health conditions, I decided to make a fun advertisement, that is not disrespectful to the people using it. As one can see, a typical “do not disturb” sign has been replaced by a handy cap parking symbol. Signifying that the empty breakfast platter below the sign is from a new happy couple.

Physical Pain
When I think of pain, I want instant relief. Children are always falling, causing them to scrape their skin. With Bactine, your child no longer has to worry about the medication itching or burning. When applied, it sooths minor cuts and scrapes. Not only does Bactine kill germs and give your relief but it is cheaper than most other products!

Hires is the original root beer. Today this product may be hard to find but Hires Root Beer actually came up with the name for root beer. In my advertisement, I tried to bring back that history that this brand carries. By using the old style car and chosen color scheme I believe it was a success. The bottle on top of the car signifies, no matter where you pack up and go, you gotta have your Hires Root Beer.

New Web Work

I am currently working/finishing up on a project for my web design class. The web site is based off a quote that our instructor gave us. Each student had a different quote and had to express it in a different way. My quote or “Truism” is “The only way to stay pure is to stay by yourself.” I explored different concepts that the quote may pertain to. After research I decided to make the web site on Sexually Transmitted Diseases. The site is to poke fun “in a way” at the pharmaceutical companies. They try to make having an STD on okay thing. Its okay if you do have them but they try to portray them as a happy everyday obstacle. So my main page is very interactive and a bit fun. Though as you go deeper into the site, the pages get darker and appear to look like warning pages. The actual information pages were created to resemble pill bottle labels. Got Bleach?

So last week my friend Heather and I decided to bleach my hair. I think it came out good, we did have to do it twice though. The first time...it kind of turned orange. There has just been so much happening lately: final projects, papers, portfolios, review prep, printing, most of all...spending money. I am surviving off the quarters I have been collecting all semester, to make it till the end of the semester. On a good note I did get to buy some books from boarders bookstore. A CCS professor gave me a $25 gift certificate for substituting while she was unable to attend class one day. I didn’t have to teach or anything, they had to take a test so I just had to baby sit. Last night I went out to Town Pump Bar, in downtown Detroit and it was a good time. I like hanging out with the new people that I have met in Graphics and Ad. Well I should go, I have to finish a paper…ugh! I hate Philosophy!

Life Update, Mexico?

Above is some work that I have been currently working on. The end of the semester is coming and its getting a little hectic. If I can make it a few more weeks, everything will be fine. The other day Heather and I decided to bleach my hair. We want it white, but its still blonde. So I plan on bleaching it again tonight. Heather and I also planed our trip to Oklahoma to visit Joanne. It’s going to be such a great time. We are leaving June 10th and coming back August 15th. On our trip we are going to head over to Texas and possibly drive to Mexico. The other day I went to apply for a passport. I forgot that they have to take your picture, so I was totally unprepared. The picture above of me is my passport picture. The women was like “Your going to have this for ten years.” That depressed me because the picture doesn’t look anything like me. I also look about 14 and I’m the kid on the block that tortures small animals. Anyways have a good rest of the week.

Relaxing Weekend

Today is the 7th but this post is from the 5th. We were still up North in Evart, so I didn't have internet access.

I am currently in Evart Michigan. I am staying with Ashley and Brooke (both from CCS-photo department.) It seems that the only thing they watch up here are CSI type shows. Its been fun though, Ashley is working on a travel and leisure series of photos. Apparently there is something in the air in Evart that makes it hard for us to understand each other. Every conversation that we have is followed by, “What?” Or we repeat the statement but…we heard something completely different than what was said. They call it Duck batter. Basically its when you hear something than what was said. Anyways, it may not make sense to you but it’s been a good trip. We saw some little Amish people playing baseball yesterday, they look like they have such a good life. Being out in this kind of environment makes me wonder what might be missing in my life. They work, play, it just seems to be such a “simple life.” In my world I have to worry about: relationships, internships, school, money, gasoline, car troubles, computers, work and friends issues that revolve around the same problems. We came back today and worked on some photo shoots in the cabin. In the middle of the shoot, there outside the window appeared a deer. Photos were taken of them and Ashley continued with her photo shoot. Now, were sipping on some wine and eating Ritz crackers…good times.

Getting Away From The City

So I have been working on this new site for a while and I’m excited about it. The site content is about Sexually Transmitted Diseases. It’s targeted towards the pharmaceutical companies and how they always portray STD’s as “going for a canoe ride.” Most of their commercials show happy people having fun. Yes, you can still have fun while having STD’s but it is a serious subject and should be treated seriously. That’s besides the point…The home page is a simple beach scene, representing how the medical companies portray STD’s. So above I am including a few images that are going to be included on my site. When one rolls over my site navigation, each of the images will appear on the screen a different way. The treasure chest will fall from the sky and drop on the beach. This represents AIDS, it could be seen as being the mother of STD’s. The crab is self explanatory. The Witch Doctor represents syphilis. He will enter the screen from the right, he will blow a kiss and his moth with fall off. Then there’s the coconut. It will fall from the tree and crack open on the ground. This will be my representation of genital herpes. So that’s the explanation for my site, I’m really excited about it. As for tomorrow, I’m really excited about going up North. I just need to get away from school for a while, more so the fact that I need to get away from everything. Alright, later all!

In Need Of A Good Time?

Heather and I were feeling a little depressed last night, so to make us feel better we had a photo shoot! They turned out very sexy. The above pictures are from our shoot. She had to take some of me for a painting that she is working on. I took the pictures of her because…its fun! Of course I didn’t get any work done, it always seems to happen that way. I always start my own projects to avoid what I should be doing. I tend to clean a lot when I have to get stuff done too, that’s another way that I distract myself. And a better example, I have papers to write tonight but instead I’m blogging. Anyways, in my art direction class, we were given our next project. We are now working in pairs. Cassandra from my class happens to be my partner. The assignment is to come up with an advertisement for a Michigan Apple company, that is humorous. I really dont have any good ideas right now, they have all been drilled out for the semester. Anyways gotta do some work, later!

Happy Easter!

This weekend I didn’t get any work accomplished. Friday me and Heather went out to find me something to wear to the CCS Ball. We succeeded and the ball was one of the best times of my life. I really danced up a storm, I am still soar…Oh and I ended up losing my keys to my car at some point. That means that my father had to come in the morning to give me another set of keys. Then on Saturday (after the car key ordeal) I had to work at American eagle. Today started too early for me…And its ending now! Before I go, in the picture above is my family and I, earlier today before Easter dinner. Happy Easter to all of you, hope you had a good one. I know I did.

Cake.Dancing.Life!

The other day me and My Best made a cake. It was so good! Above is an image of the cake. Besides that, this week has been really hectic. I am trying to catch up on some work that has piled up from over spring break. My last ad went well, it was for the online dating service Prescription4Love.com. I will post the final image for that soon, the site is for individuals whom have special conditions. The users range from having aids to being an amputee. It’s a place that makes it easier to connect with someone in the same situation. Every one needs to have that certain someone not matter what’s wrong with them, and that was the important benefit of this Ad. On to other things! Tomorrow is the third CCS Ball/Dance. I am really excited about it, I should probably go find something cheap from a thrift store to wear that looks nice. Oh! Also I have some other good news. Tropicana is going to be sending me free things because my juice water that I bought the other day is about 5 months over the expiration date. I know it sounds really groose but its still good, so I am still drinking it. I called them just for the fact I knew they had to give me something free. I have also been trying a lot of Tropicana’s products lately because some of them are actually really healthy. Their fruit squeeze drink has only 40 calories in a 16oz bottle. Though it does have concentrates but contains low sodium and sugars. Tropicana’s Pure premium orange juice is 100% juice so you get all the vitamins, which means that it has no concentrates. Its 110 calories for an 8oz glass but its better for you than drinking things with concentrates, which contain more sugar. I feel like a health freak right now, but believe me I’m not, I try though!

Ogilvy, BBDO, Tangible Worldwide, Big Deahl Productions, Cramer-Krasselt and Euro RSCG.

I am really happy that I attended the advertising trip to Chicago. Ogilvy happened to be the first office that we visited. My favorite agency from the trip is Euro RSCG. Their artistic atmosphere and friendly professionals made me feel at home. While there, we were able to sit in a boardroom and talk openly with nine Creatives. One of their clients currently is Effin Vodka. So as we toured the office we were able to see current works that were being done for Effin. The experience as a whole was very exciting and I’m glad to have had the opportunity to go. Yesterday was our ride back and it was really long…We had to leave early and I had gone to bed late our last night there. Some CCS students and I went to a club called CrowBar and it was a great time. Except for the fact that we slowly kept loosing people from our party of 15. It ended well though. Alright this is enough for tonight, I’m getting tired and we still have to talk about my birthday last night. I will save that for tomorrow.

I Made A Friend

I am convinced that I want to move to Chicago! I love the city and Detroit is not booming enough for me. I have a funny story about my visit to the Hershey store, here in Chicago. Yesterday, we walked around the city and ended up at the Hershey store. I was looking at merchandise when I heard a girl explaining that her birthday is the 19th and that she would not be able to stop in on her birthday to receive her free treat. At that, I leaned over and stated that my birthday is on the 15th and I will be going home, so I would not be able to stop in to receive my free gift ether. I also added that I could show her my; license, birth certificate, credit card, and school ID if she needed me to verify my birthday. The women at the store was so nice and only chuckled. She took us over to the counter where we were able to pick out a cup-cake. We both received our cup-cakes and had happy birthday sang to us over the loud speaker…it was GREAT! We both talked for a bit, I told her that I was from Detroit and she told me about herself. Her name is Emily, and we are now Facebook friends, lol! We are probably going to go out latter tonight, I still have to give her a call. That’s it for now though, there is to much to talk about and so much I have learned from visiting the Advertising Agencies here in Chicago. We will talk about it later.

Im lazzy!

Oh god, I’ve been on the computer for like 7 hours straight. I need to get off my fat ass, I smell, I literally smell. I haven’t even gotten out of my bed today! I simply reached over, grabbed my computer and have been on it ever since. Its going to feel good, I’m going to actually accomplish something today, like walking to the bathroom. Anyways this will probably be my last post till I get home from Chicago, I’m leaving on my train tomorrow.

He use to have a lot of good music, I heard that he was suppose to come out with a new CD soon. Sweet Old Ladies/New Clothes

So I’m packing 4 Chicago! I can’t wait, just two more days and then off to spring break! I just bought some new clothes for the trip…well more so for myself in general. I work at American Eagle so I get really good discounts but I only work one day a week. This means I basically work for clothing. Anyways I got a pair of flip flops, shorts, a polo shirt, a belt and a free spring break bag. So today my two aunts gave me money today. My birthday is on the 15th and I will still be in Chicago, so they will not see me and they wanted me to have money to spend while there. I love them so much they are two sweet old ladies, my mother and I visit them out in Commerce twp. every two weeks. (Their actually my great aunts.) Here is some other work of mine, so enjoy.

For this assignment we were to find a unique object at home. I decided to use my Grandfathers razor to demonstrate the history of shaving. By researching our object we were to write a paper on it and keep exploring. Grandpa‘s Gillette razor dates back to the 1940‘s. For my own personal satisfaction I made the text clever and witty, to portray my Grandfathers great sense of humor.

My First Post

This is my first post and I am very excited to have web space to post what’s going on in my head. I’m currently a forth year student at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit Michigan. I have a completed minor in Illustration, a in progress minor in graphics, and pending major in Advertising. I want to use my blog to express my creativity and to show my thought process, so that one can understand the final outcome of my work. I love taking photos (I still have a lot to learn) and creating graphic works. So that’s my intro…now onto the fun stuff. My goal tonight is to design some kind of a portfolio and business card. I will need it when I go to Chicago on Tuesday. I am taking another Advertising department trip and this year we decided to go to Chicago. While in Chicago we will visit: Ogilvy, BBDO, Tangible Worldwide, Big Deahl Productions, Cramer-Krasselt and Euro RSCG. Its going to be really exciting and a great opportunity to tour the agencies, like we accomplished in New York last year
